All weavings are
perfectly square or rectangular.
The Crystal style is one of the three styles of banded rugs,
but features a very specific difference from both the Wide
Ruins and the Chinle styles; a 'wavy' line effect produced
by alternating two or three different colors of weft strands.
Generally, the complex bands are patterned with squash blossoms,
but they may feature other motifs such as arrows, stars,
crosses, triangles, bear paws or diamonds.
colors tend to be muted earth tones such as rust, grey,
and rich browns, but sometimes weavers incorporate pastel
greens, pinks, or yellows.
From the Crystal area just north
of Window Rock, AZ, the Crystal style of Navajo rug is a
classic regional style of weaving.
